I

The National Coach Mentorship Program is initiated and developed by Hockey Canada and the 13 hockey branches across Canada.  The program is an opportunity for coaches at all levels to have access to someone with ideas that may help them with their coaching experience.  This is a support mechanism for those coaches wishing to become involved and the program will do their best to respond to your individual needs.

Highlights of the program are:

  •  A link with a mentor coach for support or to answer questions. To fill the gap between taking classroom certification to being on the ice for practices and on the bench for games.

  •  Resources available such as videos, drill books or training ideas.

  •   Free specialty clinics for coaches available at regional or association levels. Examples of clinics are: Competitive Games for Efficient Practices, Developing Defenseman, and Introduction to Body Contact.

  • There are 10 new topics from Hockey Canada developed they are Skating, Puck Control, Shooting and Scoring, Checking, Individual Tactics, Developing Defenseman, Goaltending, Special Teams, Small Area Games, and Creative Thinking. This module series is to compliment Hockey Canada's Coaching and Mentorship programs

  • The seminars for coaches/minor hockey associations are free of charge. The program asks that the hosts pay for any local expenses such as ice, advertising venues etc. Expenses maybe required if a mentor goes to team specific practices or games.

Mentors available for Pembina Valley are Steve Montgomery Sanford, Reg Klassen Winkler, and Brian McElroy Darlingford.
